Very rare book published in Japan at the time of the release of the legendary film Wild Style by Charlie Ahearn. If it is a presentation of the film, this book is above all (like its subtitle) an invitation to discover this “new” Hip Hop culture. A true UFO for many, the Bronx Youth Message became one of the great avant-garde movements of the turn of the century. Kazu Kazui presents here Hip Hop through a film but also through sublime photographic archives where we find the four disciplines and all the pioneers (Afrika Bambaataa, Patti Astor, Lee Quinones, Fab Five Freddy, Grand Master Flash, Le Rock Steady Crew, Cold Crush Brothers, Futura 2000…). An abundantly illustrated jewel for a culture that will celebrate its 50th anniversary. We still wonder, for how long museums, public authorities, gallery owners, booksellers will continue to despise and underestimate this culture.
