A young French journalist sent to New York in 1981, Sophie Bramly discovered the hip-hop movement there when she arrived. It takes full force the wave which shakes certain districts and particularly the Bronx. Making friends with the great figures of the time (Fab 5 Freddy, Futura 2000, Afrika Bambaataa, Grand Mixer DST…) she lives at the very heart of the phenomenon and brings back thousands of photos with her. This book is a true masterpiece and offers a selection of the most beautiful photos of Sophie Bramly; photos which are so many precious archives to enhance and understand the beginnings of a musical movement which has upset and continues to upset the cultural landscape. One of the finest books on the subject and a carefully thought out layout by Galerie 213.
