The club is known for being one of the first to play electronic music (notably Detroit techno and Chicago acid house) in the UK2 after the abandonment of the new wave sound of its early days. The club therefore allowed the emergence of house music in Europe, but also of groups like the Stone Roses, archetype of the Madchester movement2, the Happy Mondays, New Order of course, or the Inspiral Carpets5 and encouraged the meeting and collaboration between musicians and visual artists nourished by the artistic avant-gardes
