Rare testimony of Charlie Ahearn’s film. Made in the Lower East Side, The Deadly Art of Survival films young New Yorkers practicing martial arts (in the midst of Bruce Lee and other Shaolin madness). The film depicts Nathan’s real-life struggle against local drug dealers. It was Ahearn’s first foray into a reality style that takes actual characters and events and forges them into a fictional script. This film marks an important step for the artist and for street culture. 3 years later Ahearn will produce Wild Style.

Magnificent poster made by the Fashion Moda gallery for the premiere of the film and for a disco party.
