Teenage is a bit of a logical continuation of Szabo’s first work: Almost Grown (1978), which has since become a classic in photography books (referenced in particular by Parr & Badger). We therefore find in Teenage the daily life of students at Malverne High School (State of New York) in the 1970s; school in which Szabo taught photography from 1972 to 1999. Szabo describes with great finesse all the turpitudes and joys of high school through the attitudes, camaraderie, poses or fashion of adolescents.
