“I had never seen that before, never even suspected that it could exist, such energy, such an expressionist manifesto and at the same time such a party, such a political carnival”, enthuses Roland Cros after his first concert of Bérurier noir, a group of which he then became the photographer. From 1986 to 1991, he immortalized the entire French punk scene: Ludwig Von 88, Parabellum, Washington Dead Cats, the Thugs, the Wampas, the Endimanchés, Pigalle, the Dileurs, Les Cadavres… He wandered everywhere, was on stage , in the room, backstage, in the dressing rooms and also in the trucks, on the road, in the studio… For the most part unpublished, the photos brought together in this book bring to life the so-called alternative rock movement, which carried along in the wake of its performances, its hymns, its folklore, a whole horde of utopians, clowns and poets, a whole rebellious youth determined to make a happy mess.
