Everything is already in the title. If we translate: “Flatter, thicker”. The author wonders what happened to his country, the Netherlands: “what’s wrong with the Netherlands? New rich people are flaunting their assets like never before, obesity is the common new disease and aggression and violence are normal aspects of everyday life…”. It is the image of a country in crisis, where the vulgarity seems to reign that the authors of this book offer us. The images are raw, unequivocal. We bounce between prostitution, the rich behind the wheel of their Porsches, football supporters, junk food, aesthetic surgery… a sort of rather terrible panorama. Very interesting book.
