“Like a tornado” writes Jim Jarmusch. Here is a somewhat forgotten (and underestimated) book from the famous Araki’s photographic archives. A long series of photographs taken in 1979 in the American city. the eye of Araki is exerted here on the strangers in transhumance in the streets of Manhattan. It’s a vision of New York in the late 1970s.

Nobuyoshi Araki goes out into the world with his eyes and a camera. He is looking for things that attract his attention – soft things, hard things, liquid, smoke… Sometimes he tries to photograph things that can’t be photographed – the sound of a girl’s voice laughing, the color of snow, the smell of sex, the darkness…” (Jim Jarmusch).
