Jean Michel Basquiat (1988)

Original poster, offset print, New York, 1988, 73 cm x 53.3 cm. Condition: Very good (tear in the margin to restore).

Very beautiful original poster of the last exhibition dedicated during his lifetime to Jean-Michel Basquiat. The exhibition was held at the Vrej Baghoomian gallery in New York between April 29 and June 11, 1988. The artist died on August 12 following an overdose of heroin and cocaine in his studio in Noho. The poster seems austere and does not reproduce any work by Basquiat but his portrait, testimony to his fame and his success. Basquiat holds in his hand one of the books that inspired him the most at the end of his life: The Subterraneans by Jack Kerouac (« Les Souterrains » in French). The photograph of this poster is the work of the French Jérôme Schlomoff.
