Rare archives around one of the young militia. Founded in New York in February 1979 by Curtis Sliwa, the Guardians Angels made it their mission to ensure the safety of people in the New York subway. They were recognizable by their berets and t-shirts. This association spread throughout the United States in the early 80s and even to London, Tokyo, South Africa, Israel…

These Archives first include several original press photographs of members patrolling the metro and the streets (photographs taken in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Houston between 1981 and 1986). Then Curtis Silwa’s rare self-defense book published in 1982, illustrated with numerous photographs taken in the streets of New York. And finally two magazines looking at the “phenomenon” represented by this militia.
