One of the rarest Parisian magazines. A masterpiece of advertising and a digest of the spirit of the 80s mixing Art, Fashion, Photography, Art of living. “Gratuit” was a magazine published between 1979 and 1994, the founder of which was the artist Gilles Mahé. This magazine was originally distributed free of charge in museums, galleries, bookstores and fashion boutiques. It was fully funded by advertisers. Issues are now very difficult to find. There were a total of 27 issues with very variable frequency.

The interest is based as much on the quality of the photographs as on the advertisers themselves. To name a few: Le Palace, Agnes B (illustration by Kiki Picasso), Elisabeth de Senneville, Art Press, Pierre Le Tan, Castelbajac, Francis Ford Coppola (Bettina Rheims), Jean Lagarrigue, Center Georges Pompidou, Christian Bourgois ( William S. Burroughs), Actuel (Jean-François Bizot), Cahiers du Cinéma, Yvon Lambert, Fondation Cartier, Radio Nova… The last issue proposed (n ° 12) is entirely devoted to the Pompidou museum. The photographs are extremely careful and offer a panorama of Parisian cultural life.
