Fond Perdu is a visual documentation, one that transcends the contrivances of culture, showcasing gesture and emotions as a natural mode of expression and universal understanding. Works presented tap into the notion of how heritage and history interfere with the climate today, bringing understanding to present social relations and situations. With that in mind, work is primarily not about the past, it is about the present. “For me, these artists have a socially ‘engaged’ artistic practice on social issues. More than images, these photographs are real situations that reveal the invisible tensions at the heart of our daily lives.”

Works exhibited are central to the practice of the artists, and represent the extension of their consciousness, circumstances and beliefs. Mohamed Bourouissa, Ilyes Griyeb, Solène Şahmaran Gün, Laura Henno and Charles Thiefaine photographs make the invisible visible. Their work carries out an attitude that helps us recognize the commonality between the different cultures and dispels many of the misconceptions that are often perpetuated. Social connections and intimacy are used as a means of creating that not only enables people to see their reflections, but allows you to feel their connections as well—at all times engaging in artists’ ongoing inquiry into notions of identity, heritage, cultural relevance and traditions.
