In May 2017, the auction house Sotheby’s put on sale a masterful work by Jean-Michel Basquiat entitled Untitled, dated 1982. This large painting (1.83 m by 1.73 m), which represents a disturbing black head on a background azure blue, was sold after more than ten minutes of bidding, a very unusual duration. The buyer had to pay 110 million dollars, a new record for the artist.
Sotheby’s offers in this presentation catalog a biographical presentation of the artist since his beginnings and takes us back to the bubbling New York of the early 80s. In addition, four pages entirely devoted to Untitled and a poster of the work. A magnificent promotional support worthy of this important sale.
