Art in transit is a book published in 1984 and exclusively devoted to the drawings Keith Haring made in the New York subway at the very beginning of the 1980s. Haring had invaded the public space with thousands of drawings which he drew in chalk on empty metro advertising inserts. He could spend his days underground devoting himself solely to this task (up to 40 drawings per day), which attracted the curiosity of users and onlookers as well as sometimes the severity of the police who arrested him for degradation. . These drawings are representative of Keith Haring’s idea of art: accessible to all. Magnificent book which has never been republished, in a perfect state of conservation and which constitutes a precious testimony to works which have now disappeared.
