Meryl Meisler’s first monograph, A tale of Two Cities is one of the best books about New York in the late 1970s. This modern Babylon then (and still today) exerts a mixture of passion, fascination and fear. Meisler, a resident of Bushwick (Brooklyn) walks between her suburb and Manhattan with her camera. This book is a round trip between disco nights (Studio 54, Xenon …) and the popular and impoverished suburb of Bushwick. We meet Andy Warhol as well as young people hanging out in the street. A fantastic testimony.
