Rubén Ortiz-Torres, a Mexican artist based in Los Angeles, participated in Mexico City’s counter-cultural scene in the 1980s. Mexiponx is a book printed in Riso of Rubén’s photographs from that time. Animated by the aesthetic of Mexican zines of the 80s – loud, daring and fleeting – this edition brings a youth project to life. These intimate and striking portraits show how a group of Mexican teenagers and young adults interpreted what it meant to be punk, queer, underground and above all rebellious on all fronts.
