This book is a kind of guide to Hip Hop. Published in the mid-1980s, in the midst of the Break Dance fever, the cover subtitle perfectly sums up the content: “In Pictures and words, the definitive guide to the music, the fashion, the art and the dance of Hip Hop: the most dynamic, subversive subculture in America since the 60’s “. The preface is written by Kurtis Blow and the book is divided into four parts: Rapping, Graffiti, Fashion and Breaking. We find all the actors and pioneers of the movement: the Rock Steady Crew, Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa and The Soul Sonic Force, Dj Kool Herc, Grandmaster Caz, Grandmixer DST, Sugar Hill Gang, Spoonie Gee, Patti Astor, Fab 5 Freddy… with many black and white photographs. A very beautiful book in the unique and so creative spirit of the original hip hop movement.
