Very rare poster designed by Peter Saville for Factory Records. The poster is all the more important as it announces the launch of Joy Division’s first studio album: Unknown Pleasures. We recognize in this the famous image 100 consecutive pulses from the pulsar CP 1919 which will become a cultural icon.
Originally, The Facory had published two promotional posters (black on gray and gray on black). They are very difficult to find today and are listed in the Factory Records catalog (see https://factoryrecords.org/factory-records/fact-104-posters.php).

Unknown Pleasures was recorded at Strawberry Studios in Stockport over three weekends from April 1 to 17, 1979. Factory Records would not release singles from the album. Unknown Pleasures did not chart despite the relative success of the group’s previous single “Transmission”. Since the album has enjoyed critical success, it has been acclaimed for its innovative aspect and the influence it will have on all post-punk. It is considered by the NME or AllMusic as one of the best albums of all time.

This will be the only album released during the lifetime of Ian Curtis, singer and leader of the group.
